Anthony Mackie who plays Falcon in the MCU told SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that the film initially intended to cast an older actor as Cap in scenes where he appears as an old man, instead of using prosthetics to age Chris Evans.
He revealed that filmmakers brought in three men to try out for the role but it didn’t go to plan.
Speaking about the older actors, Mackie joked: “This isn’t how Chris will look when he’s old – he’s like George Clooney, he’s going to be 95 and still look handsome.”
He went on to explain how they eventually settled on Old Man Cap as we know and love him in Endgame.
“They brought in the make-up team and prosthetics and made him into an old man and with how good of an actor Chris is it actually worked, he pulled it off with his voice and everything,” Mackie said. “He did a great job.”
He also gave some insight into Falcon’s future as Captain America after fans saw Cap announce his retirement, offering to hand his shield over to Falcon – a storyline that will be investigated further in upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“At the end of Endgame, Cap decided that he was going into retirement and he asked me if I would take up the shield,” he explained.

“But at no point in time did I agree to or say that I would be Captain America. So the show walks the line of who’s going to take up the shield and who’s going to be Captain America if Steve isn’t coming back.”
We’ll have to wait until March 19 when the series comes to Disney+ to find out.
Avengers: Endgame and almost every other MCU movie is available to watch on Disney+.
